September 3, 2007

Lava Hot Gift of the Month:

"Flintstones, they're the Flintstones...." Go prehistoric
this Halloween! Throw a prehistoric themed party your
family and friends will remember. Flintstone costumes
allow you and the kids to indulge your prehistoric fantasy.
For that reason Absolutely Prehistoric picked these Stone
Age costumes as the 'Lava Hot Gift of the Month' for
September 2007.

Featured Creature:

Lystrosaurus - this pig-like reptile fossils were first
discovered in South Africa in the mid-nineteenth century
and then in so many other places in the world it was
thought to be proof of the theory of continental drift.

This abundant therapsid (dicynodont) reptile was a
herbivore and although only 6.5 feet long it was for a
period of a couple of million years the largest animal on
Earth.

The fossil records suggest that Lystrosaurus was the most
successful of all the dicynodonts and lived 248-245 million
years ago.
